FAMILY ACTIVITIES AT THE FORT!
Don’t miss the special family activities at ECEC’s replica of historic Fort Umpqua from 10-4 both days. Historical re-enactors portraying life in the time of Fort Umpqua will set up camp by the river for the weekend. CALLING ALL KIDS! Make your own corn husk doll, play popular children’s games of the 1800’s and try your hand at pumping water and grinding corn. Adults and kids alike can visit with the Elkton Fiber Arts Guild in the newly completed Fort barracks building and enjoy outdoor blacksmith and cooking demonstrations. JUST FOR ADULTS: Tap into your inner Mountain Man (or Woman) in the daily “Seneca Run” competition–start a fire with flint, set a beaver trap, portage your canoe, and more.
FOOD & ENTERTAINMENT!
Start your weekend off right with the Fort Umpqua Days parade. The parade leaves Downtown Elkton at 10 am Saturday and follows River Road to ECEC.
Enjoy music on the Greenhouse Patio both days from 11:00-1:00. Contra Swings returns on Saturday by popular demand. On Sunday, enjoy regional favorites The Slow Ponies, an all-woman band specializing in cowgirl tunes and songs of the Silver Screen era.
The “Echoes of the Umpqua” pageant is a highlight of Fort Umpqua Days, happening on Saturday and Sunday at 5:00 p.m. in the ECEC amphitheater. The popular drama features approximately 100 community members who write, compose music, perform, and direct the production. Each year’s show reflects a different aspect of Elkton’s history; this year is “The Stagecoach Mystery.”
Eat your way through the weekend! Start with morning pancakes served by the local Lion’s Club. Our popular outdoor BBQ booth opens at 11am both days and continues into the afternoon. Bid on your favorite pie at the lively pie auction mid-day Saturday. The Outpost Cafe is open from 9-5 both days–the perfect place for ice cream, coffee drinks or an affordable family meal. (And don’t forget the butterfly cookies!)
