Hello Elkton community and friends of ECEC. My name is Marie Montgomery and I am joining my friend and colleague, Deborah Gritton, in a partnered leadership role here at ECEC. Let me share with you a bit about myself and what brings me to this community.

I am originally from Drain, heck I even made it onto the front page as the first newborn in the birthing center in Cottage Grove. Growing up, my families’ journey took me to different parts of Oregon. I have lived in the city and in rural Oregon. I have worn many hats in my working career, but always land in a leadership role in one way or another. Once I had my daughter I knew I wanted to find a way back to living closer to family. After a short attempt in California we returned to Drain and my mother insisted “I come check out this amazing butterfly place that has fresh produce too!”

I fell in love with native plant park and the butterfly pavilion, it holds a lot of great memories for me. We would stop in a few times a week to gather fresh produce and take morning walks and selfies with my little one. I have watched her growing up between the metal men and the butterflies each season here. Now I get to watch so many other families do the same.

As my daughter grew and started school I knew Elkton was where I wanted her to attend so I looked for opportunities that would allow me to stay closer to home while working. I have always enjoyed working with the public. I was beyond excited when the opportunity came around to join the team here. I was introduced to Marjory about 4 years ago and the timing and fit of ECEC was just what I was looking for. I appreciate how she saw the opportunity in me and how I could contribute. As we move forward I hope to hold that same place for others as they find their way to be part of the community here.

Elkton has shown me to be a uniquely partnered community. I am grateful for the staff and volunteers we have here. So much talent flows here! I am very much looking forward to what this new adventure brings.

Chat with you all soon,
