Fort Umpqua Days

02Sep2023Fort Umpqua Days is a two-day celebration of local history held on Labor Day weekend each year. Join the hometown parade through Elkton (Saturday morning), then try your hand at the famous pie auction (Saturday afternoon), visit the exhibits at Fort Umpqua, live music, wine garden, tours at the Butterfly Pavilion & Fort Umpqua. Take a stroll through the gardens, shop at a wide selection of Artisan booths, and take part in the fun interactive history-themed activities for visitors all weekend long. Relax Saturday and Sunday evening to be thoroughly entertained at Elkton’s Annual Echoes of The Umpqua Pageant Performance at the amphitheater!

Coming from out of town? Make a weekend of it and enjoy all that Elkton has to offer!

FAMILY ACTIVITIES AT THE FORT!

Visit ECEC’s replica of historic Fort Umpqua  9 AM – 5 PM Saturday and Sunday and see historical re-enactors and blacksmiths portray life in the mid-1800s. Press your own cider and try your hand at grinding corn. Kids can participate in a voyageur expedition, obstacle course, live animal exhibits, and history-themed crafts.

FOOD & ENTERTAINMENT!

Start your morning with pancakes served by the local Lion’s Club from 7 – 11 AM (both days). Then head downtown Elkton at 10 AM on Saturday for the historical Fort Umpqua Days parade that follows along River Road to ECEC.

Eat and dance your way through the rest of the weekend!  For lunch enjoy ECEC’s BBQ Fundraiser on the patio hosted by the Elkton Baptist Church from 11 AM – 3 PM and Matt & Mitty’s blackberry themed menu 10 AM – 6 PM. For dessert do not miss the iconic Pie Auction Saturday at 1 PM and Ice-Cream at the Outpost Café–the perfect place for butterfly cookies, lavender or blackberry lemonade, and smoothies 9 AM – 5 PM all weekend long. On both days there will be a wine garden featuring Elkton’s wineries River’s Edge and Bradley’s Vineyard from 11 AM – 5 PM!!!

11:30 AM – 1:30 PM Daniel Leisher – a power tenor, playing and singing a vast variety of musical adventures, including rock, blues, cover songs and original music.                                                           
2 PM – 4 PM Joe Ross a solo show of Celtic, Old-Time and Bluegrass
5 PM -6 PM Echoes of The Umpqua Pageant

The annual Echoes of The Umpqua Pageant will feature “A Year in the Life”. This two-day performance stars Elkton’s Local Actors and Musicians who will portray different activities that would have occupied the Fort and settlers during the Fort era at each of the 4 seasons of the year ~ you do not want to miss Elkton’s historical and quintessential event!

OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES & MORE!

Shop until you drop with local Artisans 10 am – 4 pm. Enjoy our extensive gardens as you stroll along the paths to Fort Umpqua where you will step back in time with trappers and traders ~ oh my! Cool off in the Library to admire the current art exhibit of Ervin Groppenbecher and be sure to grab a raffle ticket for this year’s quilt at the giftshop 9 AM – 5 PM throughout Labor Day weekend.

Last but not least–don’t miss a chance to learn about our native butterflies from local high school students and see Monarch butterflies in our Flight Room.

Daniel Leisher started singing in Choir at the age of 8 and started playing guitar at the age of 14 yrs old.  He has been involved in various music projects and bands for the majority of his life.  In recent years, he’s been playing a variety of solo shows all over Douglas County.  He has a unique style of playing acoustical songs, using an electric guitar, enabling him to solo all over the fret board with acoustical sounds.
