If ECEC is your destination, check our seasonal hours. The best time to view butterflies is late June through mid-September. The Outpost Café is open and tours are available at Fort Umpqua daily from mid-June through late August (specific dates depend on when our student guides are out of school).

We also have several community groups that meet regularly at ECEC that are open to all! They include a Seniors & Friends Lunch; Elkton Quilters & Fiber Friends; and a Book Club. Get more information about our community groups here.

See more details Gourd Bowl workshop with Ramona Gourd Bowl workshop with Ramona January 11, 2025 @ 10:00 am - 1:00 pm Ramona is back with a wonderful gourd bowl workshop, being held in the Ellie Smartt Community Library! Each attendee will learn the process to cleaning and drying gourds, (but don't worry, we have prepared gourds for you to use today) and will decorate their own bowl. We will seal your creation with a clear-coat for you, and you'll take it home the same day! All needed supplies for this project, along with tasty light refreshments will be provided for you. Gourd Bowls make excellent gifts and can be used as candy dishes, votive holders, or a decorative bowl to hold potpourri or flowers! The possibilities are endless! These gourds are organically grown and each one has its own unique personality and look, which is one of the things that makes them so amazing! Join us in the Ellie Smartt Community Library at ECEC from 1:30-3:30pm Jesse Jackson, one of the founding members of The Takelma Cultural Center (located in Drew, OR), will be sharing his family heritage, tribal history in Oregon, what living in a seasonal round looked like for the Takelma people, and how Native culture is being shared, taught and lived today. He will have items and artifacts on display, will share stories, and demonstrate Native drumming/singing as well. The name Jesse Jackson may look familiar to you--he has been to ECEC before, when TCC taught Native American techniques in flintknapping during our Saturday Summer educational activities at Fort Umpqua. Members of his education and culture team have also been here for a Native American History Day hosted at Fort Umpqua and have had an educational booth at Fort Umpqua Days the last two years. Jesse is a phenomenal presenter, teacher, historian and archeologist. He is engaging, full of passion and has a heart for knowledge sharing. You will surely enjoy learning from him.
