Barb studied large ungulates at the University of Montana, where she received her Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Wildlife Biology. She moved to Elkton in 2014 and began her work as the ECEC’s butterfly steward in July of 2015. Her favorite thing about being the butterfly steward is being able to interact with the guests who come to see the butterflies.
What does a Butterfly Steward Do?
The main job is to oversee the butterfly program here at ECEC. This includes, caring for the caterpillars and butterflies by being sure they have enough food and facilitating group tours, especially school groups during May and September. Barb also sets up monarch workshops, where she explains proper monarch care as well as the important plants for a monarch’s habitat.
