Join us for Elkton’s Bluegrass and Butterflies Festival with nine bands including Fog Holler, Under the RocksStillhouse Junkies and more!

This is an outdoor music festival held down at Fort Umpqua with dry camping available in the upper recreation field. The event features multiple bands, food trucks, products from local wineries & breweries, and vendors with eco-friendly, handmade, and wellness items.

Additional Partnering Community Organizations include the Elkton Community Education Center: Rural Healthcare & Wellness Initiative & ECEC Butterfly Adoption program, the Elkton Lions Club, and for the third consecutive year the Thomas Batterman Mental Health Project’s very own 5k run on Saturday Morning along with

Vista Health mid-morning Yoga in the gardens, There will be many ways you can help support the community by attending Bluegrass & Butterflies 2025!

15th Annual Elkton Art & Wine Weekend

Shop Elkton this holiday season!

The town of Elkton is putting out the welcome mat Thanksgiving weekend with our 15th annual Art & Wine Tour.

Enjoy a one-of-a-kind holiday shopping experience featuring handmade gifts, world-class wines and more. Connect with the artisan or winemaker who made your gift while soaking in a little small-town charm.

Read on for a list of featured artists and activities, then download your event passport with each site’s hours and location. (Passports are also available at each site during the tour.)

Your passport doubles as an entry to win a raffle basket with items from local businesses. Enter the raffle by collecting five or more stamps from each local business that you visit.

Art Exhibits on the Tour…

Visit Elkton’s newest home studio, Elk Creek Glass to see the ancient art of blowing and fusing glass. Watch the different ways they layer colorful glass to make cups, coasters, plates, bowls, lampshades, and art pieces. Classes will start this winter, so you can learn glass blowing or fusing to make your own magic!

Metal artist Cliff Scharf has been making “handcrafted jewelry with an updated twist” for nearly five decades. His son Sam Scharf is also a talented multi-media artist and jewelry maker. Together, they are Scharf Family Jewelers and will be at Bradley Vineyards during the event.

Brandborg Winery will have works from well known local multimedia artist, Jennifer Wolfe on display all weekend. Jane Wood is an accomplished painter who captures evocative rural landscapes on canvas and is an experienced plein air artist; you can find her art upstairs at Brandborg Winery, as well.

Lisa Lewis is an emerging, up-and-coming watercolor artist who believes every brushstroke has the power to help tell a story and convey emotion. Her beautiful Watercolor by Lisa stories in a picture are on display at River’s Edge Winery throughout the event.

Haines Creek Vineyard & Tasting Room is hosting a well-known Eugene artist, Candice Watson!

The “Metomorphosis / Growth” art show is hanging in the Joan Arsenault Gallery at the Elkton Community Education Center

Did you know…Arlene’s Cafe is home to a popular mural by Sunbaum & Winans? This weekend is a great time to check out permanent art installations in Elkton, including outdoor works at ECEC by Marie Rasmussen & Timothy Johannes, a stunning stone fountain by Lincoln Russel, a 24′ decorative cast iron grills by internationally-known Jan Zach and metal art by Phil Beck.

Knoll Bistro (formerly Tomaselli’s) has art on display by well known artists Isaac and Lucia Meyer.

Artists, Gifts & More at ECEC…

Start your tour at the Elkton Community Education Center (ECEC) at 15850 Highway 38 to pick up a tour passport.

We’ll have Artists in Action on Saturday and Sunday. Deb Gritton will be sharing a Fiber Arts demonstration and will have some extra tools for you to try out. Visit with professional watercolor artist Lisa Lewis on Sunday as she works on a current project.

The library will be filled with artisans and crafters selling their creations, including Janet Barton, Susan Rodgers, Lisa Lewis, Paula Lewis, Hope Krissie, Sue Ward, Debra Fenzl, Jodie Rudolph, Casey Rollefson, Keith & Roma Henney, Michele Warden, Beverly Libby, Billy Reid, Sam Fitzgibbon, Nelson Frosland, Romhy Holden, Wende Cline, and Erin Monroe.

Cathy Byle & Family will be selling Christmas Trees on the patio by the Gift Shop, and ECEC will have Holiday Swags, too!

While you’re there, you can enjoy a casual lunch, coffee drinks and desserts from the Outpost Cafe, and peruse the new “Metamorphosis / Growth” art exhibit.

Visit our Gift Shop to find beautiful holiday swags, artwork and gifts from our friends and neighbors sold on consignment that are great for kids, gardeners and rock lovers on your list. Specialty items include hats featuring Fort Umpqua, t-shirts celebrating ECEC’s 25th Anniversary and stemless ECEC wine glasses to serve the wine you buy this weekend in style!

Holiday Shopping…

Brandborg Winery, Fri, Sat, Sun 11-4 is hosting a silent auction to benefit Elkton City Park, and a few local artisans including Jen’s Jam’n’Jellies, Sarah Mills, and art by Jennifer Wolfe and Jane Wood

Farm Pickins Mercantile on First Street always offers a beautiful selection of holiday gifts and features artists’ work. Shop vintage and antique gifts, repurposed furniture, and holiday decorations. They will also be hosting Lexème Wines this weekend so you can sip while you shop!

Food & Wine…

Fine-crafted wines are another type of artistry, and Elkton’s wineries produce a fantastic range of styles to suit different tastes and budgets.

This is the perfect year to visit your favorite wineries and welcome new winemakers to the area.

Bradley Vineyards tasting room/winery will be open Fri-Sun, 11-5. Hosting Scharf Family Jewelers.

Brandborg Winery tasting room/winery will be open Fri-Sun, 11-5, with displays of works by artists Jane Woods and Jennifer Wolfe.

Explore Knoll Vineyards‘ wines at the Knoll Bistro (formerly Tomaselli’s) and support the new restaurant owners while you’re there.

Lexème will be pouring samples and selling bottles at Farm Pickins Fri-Sun 11-5, while they prepare to open their new tasting room.

River’s Edge Winery tasting room/winery will be open Fri-Sun, 11-5, and featuring stunningly beautiful works of watercolor by Lisa Lewis, whose work shows her passion and belief in every brushstroke having the power to tell a story and impact us on an emotional level.

Haines Creek Vineyard and Tasting Room (formerly Anindor) is open Fri-Sun from 12-5, and will host the talented artist Candice Watson.

Gardening is a great way to grow your own food and stay active. Our annual plant sale lets you shop close to home while keeping a safe social distance.

MOTHER’S DAY PLANT & COOKBOOK SALE

Our plant sale will be back in 2023!  The info below is for the event 2022 — read on to get an idea of what happens during the sale!

 

Wednesday through Saturday (May 6 – 9) our Garden Manager will be on the patio from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM to answer your questions.

Shop for warm-weather veggie and herb starts, hanging baskets, native shrubs, butterfly-friendly flowers and supplies for container gardening on the patio. Wear your craziest garden hat & mask for a free gift!

Don’t need advice? Come between 1:00-6:00 PM to shop with cash or a check (exact change only).

We also have a HUGE selection of cookbooks in excellent condition donated by a talented local cook earlier in the year. At just $5 a book (3 for $12), you can get a great gift for mom or treat yourself!

To shorten your time on site, we encourage you to select and pay for your plants in our online store (ececstore.square.site) the day before you plan to come in. You can check out the patio for additional plants, hanging baskets and cookbooks when you pick up your order.

TUESDAY’S KIDS ART CAMP 2019

Summer Art Camp sponsored by ECEC & US Bank for grades K-8th. Program features local artists and art history with fun interactive play. Art work will be presented at a community art show for Fort Umpqua Days!

Activities will take place at the Amphitheater and our Historical Fort. Drop off and pick up will be at the main office. Parents our Outpost Cafe will be open so please stop in for coffee, latte or snack.

Students can join for one of the weekly art themes or all eight:

Wine About Your Bike (Featuring Cottage Grove’s Windy Ridge)

2nd Annual Wine About Your Bike

Bike with friends and family through Elkton this August!  On Saturday, August 17, get your bikes and wine racks ready for a unique opportunity to take in Elkton’s four wineries and tasting rooms through scenic bike routes.

Enjoy free wine tastings with your commemorative glass, family friendly activities, beautiful bike routes, and more. Purchased wine along your route will be shuttled back to ECEC for pick-up at the end of the event.

At 5:30 PM, enjoy FREE entry to a concert by Cottage Grove’s Windy Ridge at the ECEC amphitheater with your admission ticket ($10 value)

Early Bird tickets are $25 and after July 31st $30 – available on Eventbrite. Tickets for the concert only are $10.

Fort Umpqua Days 2-Day Bass Tournament

Join us Labor Day weekend (September 5th & 6th) for a little friendly competition on the Umpqua River!  More information and an updated registration form is now available.  See below for the 2018 tournament rules.

OFFICIAL TOURNAMENT RULES & REGULATIONS

  1. RULES: The rules of this tournament will remain unchanged.  Interpretation of these rules shall be left to the tournament chairman.  The decision of the tournament officials shall be final in any and all matters.
  2. SAFETY: Safe boating conduct must be obeyed by all tournament competitors at all times.  Each competitor is requested to wear a Coast Guard approved vest at all times or at least when traversing white water.
  3. SPORTMANSHIP: Competitors are expected to follow the highest standards of sportsmanship, safety and conservation.
  4. COURTESY: Maximum courtesy must be practiced at all times, especially with regard to boating and angling in the vicinity of non-competitors who may be using tournament waters.  No alcoholic beverages, stimulants or depressants shall be allowed in the boat.  ANY ACT of a competitor which reflects unfavorably upon this tournament and its participants, clean water and courtesy, efforts to promote fisheries conservation, will be reason for disqualification.  Any infraction of these fundamental sporting principles may be cause for automatic disqualification from this and all future Fort Umpqua Days Bass Tournaments.
  5. TACKLE & EQUIPMENT: Only artificial lures may be used.  No live bait will be permitted.  No chumming allowed.  Only one (1) rod per person at any time.
  6. BOAT & MOTOR: All boats must be equipped with required Coast Guard safety equipment.  In addition, all boats must have a functional live well, properly aerated or an adequate portable battery-powered “fish saver” to maintain a limit catch of smallmouth bass.  Each drift boat shall have three (3) fishermen.  Electric motors & gas are permissible.  Aerators are available for those who do not have one.
  7. WEIGH-IN: There shall be only one official weigh-in point, and this weigh-in point shall be designated at the tournament briefing.  Starting numbers will be determined by a drawing the morning of the start of the tournament.
  8. SCORING: Scoring will be determined solely by the total weight of smallmouth bass.  The limit shall be five (5) smallmouth bass per team.  Five largest bass shall be presented at weigh-in.
  9. DON’T KILL YOUR FISH: Each competitor must make every effort to keep his fish alive.  Eight ounces will be deducted for each dead fish presented at weigh-in.
  10. TIES: In the case of a tie, the largest smallmouth bass will win the place in question. A toss of the coin will resolve any yet unbroken ties.  The next place will go to the team or individual so eliminated.
  11. PROTEST: Any contestant wishing to protest the score or conduct of a fellow contestant must do so within 15 minutes of the official weigh-in awards.
  12. LATE PENALTY: Teams that have not turned in their team number by weigh-in deadline will be disqualified.
  13. All boats shall be drift boat type or at least white water approved for safety concerns.

Fort Umpqua Days

Fort Umpqua Days is a two-day celebration of local history held on Labor Day weekend each year.

Join us for live music, good food, history demonstrations, a wine garden, and butterfly tours & adoptions. Take a stroll through the gardens, shop at a wide selection of Artisan booths, and take part in the fun interactive history-themed activities for visitors all weekend long. Enjoy the small-town charm during the hometown parade, pie auction and Elkton’s Annual Echoes of The Umpqua Pageant at the amphitheater.

Labor Day Weekend 2025!

 

FAMILY ACTIVITIES AT THE FORT

Visit ECEC’s replica of historic Fort Umpqua  9 AM – 4 PM Saturday and Sunday and see historical re-enactors portray life in the mid-1800s. Kids can participate in a voyageur expedition, obstacle course, live animal exhibits, and history-themed crafts.

FOOD & ENTERTAINMENT!

Start your morning with pancakes served by the local Lion’s Club from 7 – 11 AM (both days). Then head downtown Elkton at 10 AM on Saturday for the annual Fort Umpqua Days parade that travels along River Road to ECEC.

Eat and dance your way through the rest of the weekend!  The Elkton Baptist Church is grillin’ up burgers & dogs for lunch both days to raise funds for ECEC’s educational programs. Stop by the student-run Outpost Café anytime between 9 AM and 4 PM for a smoothie, coffee drink & the house special butterfly cookie. Elkton’s wineries will be pouring their best in the wine garden on Saturday from 11 AM – 4 PM. And you won’t want to miss the popular Pie Auction Saturday at 1 PM!

Enjoy live music Saturday

Our Second Annual Mullet Contest on Sunday at 1:30 PM! Rock your ‘do for a chance to win a $100 prize in one of three age categories; there will be a prize for the best mullet wig too!

The Echoes of The Umpqua Pageant happens Saturday AND Sunday from 5 PM -6 PM, featuring local actors and musicians, and lots of small-town charm.

OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES & MORE!

Shop until you drop with local artisans 10 AM – 4 PM. Enjoy our extensive gardens as you stroll along the paths to Fort Umpqua where you will step back in time with trappers and traders ~ oh my! Cool off in the Library to admire the current art exhibit and be sure to check out the gift shop 9 AM – 4 PM before and during the big event.

Last but not least–don’t miss a chance to learn about our native butterflies in our butterfly pavilion and to Adopt-a-Butterfly before the Monarchs start their fall migration.

Blooms & Butterflies

It is time to CELEBRATE the return of the Blooms & Butterflies to our area at a fun, family-friendly event!!

The festivities start at 9 am with a scenic 5K Butterfly Run/Walk along the Umpqua River-butterfly costumes encouraged!

Enjoy free kids’ activities, live music, craft vendors, information booths and food throughout the day. Take a tour of historic Fort Umpqua and learn about the life cycle of native butterflies in the ECEC flight room. Find garden-themed presents in our Gift Shop and plants for your own backyard habitat in our Native Plant Nursery. Scroll down for a full schedule.

Butterfly 5K Run/Walk

2024 RUNNER TIMES

Join the migration of human butterflies happening on June 20th, 2026!

Put your best butterfly costume on for a scenic 5K Run / Walk along the Umpqua River in Elkton.

Registration is just $30 and if you register before May 30th you are guaranteed a FREE tank top, so be sure to register early! Kids 12 and under are invited to run the 5K this year for free or join a short 1/4 mile loop through the park! Run or walk at your own pace, then come back to get lunch, enjoy the ​Blooms & Butterflies Festival and enter the butterfly costume contest. There will be prizes for the fastest male and female for runners 12 and under, 13-40, and 41+ awarded during the butterfly costume contest at 11:15.

This year’s Butterfly Run is organized by ECEC’s Wellness Initiative lead.

Enjoy free kids’ activities, live music, craft vendors, information booths, food, and tours of Butterfly Pavilion and Fort Umpqua throughout the day. Join us for a full day of festivities and help us kick off the season at ECEC!

THE COURSE

The course starts at ECEC’s Native Plant Park, follows River Road through town, crosses Elk Creek, and ends back at ECEC. Run or walk along the banks of the Umpqua River then enjoy yoga, live music, craft vendors and more the rest of the day with friends and family at the Blooms & Butterflies festival.

During the COVID-19 restrictions, ECEC is actively supporting our community while encouraging people to stay at home and stay safe.

During the COVID-19 restrictions, ECEC is actively supporting our community while encouraging people to stay at home and stay safe. Our Native Plant Nursery is fully operational and we've added an Online Store so you can order the veggie starts, perennials and native shrubs you need for your home garden. The Outpost Mobile Food Pantry continues to come twice a month. We're developing a service to bring fresh vegetable boxes to Elkton to reduce the number of trips people need to take to other communities, and the library is available by appointment.
